Confronting insider threats and active shooters

Gray Graphics’ Vice President of Operations and Corporate Facility Security Officer Abrahem Helal recently took part in an engaging seminar aimed at identifying and preventing insider threats and active shooters.

Special Agent Erin Sheridan, a member of the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, shared valuable insight on how to identify and mitigate insider threats and instances of active shooters in the workplace. Sheridan has over 15 years of experience working within the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and Behavioral Analysis Unit. She was a first responder and investigator in several notable events, including the 2013 Navy Yard shooting and 9/11 World Trade Center event.

A recent FBI report shows mass shootings are happening more often. From 2006 to 2013, there were 16.4 active-shooter incidents per year compared to just 6.4 per year from 2000 to 2006.

While it’s not yet a subject most businesses are comfortable approaching, many across the nation are taking proactive steps to raise awareness of these threats and put reasonable preventative measures in place.
